NYYPP Event Details

THE 2020 NEW YORK YOUNG PERFORMERS PRIZE (NYYPP) COMPETITION

DATE of FINAL-ROUND CONCERT & AWARDS CEREMONY: Sunday, April 26, 2020, at 4:00 PM

VENUE: Greenwich House Music School, 46 Barrow St., New York, NY 10036

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications must be completed by the Instructors and submitted by Monday, April 6, 2020.

VIDEO DEADLINE: All video links referring to applications must be sent to mr.antig10@gmail.com by Monday, April 13, 2020.

ENTRIES PER INSTRUCTOR: Up to 2 (two) students per Division. 

REGULATIONS & INSTRUCTIONS

1. Auditions will be conducted via YouTube video links. Please follow the steps and restrictions described below:

a) For each applicant, a YouTube video link must be set up and sent to: mr.antig10@gmail.com
b) Each YouTube upload must be labelled with the initials and year of the event, followed by the applicant’s initials and age. E.g., for a JOHN DOE aged 14, their video should be labelled NYYPP2020JD14
c) Audition videos must be of good quality and shot with an efficient smartphone or digital video recorder (e.g. iPhone, iPad, Samsung Galaxy, etc.); a 1080i resolution would be most welcome.
d) Each of the video clips must be a one-angle shot showing the performer’s full body. In the case of pianists, the entire piano keyboard and foot pedals must also be shown. No multi-angle shots or other forms of amplification are allowed, and the camera must remain still throughout the entire recorded performance.
e) A full recording of each selection must be posted, without any edits or cuts. Partial recordings will be disqualified.
f) Each composition (repertoire selection) must be recorded and uploaded into a separate YouTube video (i.e., for 2 pieces, 2 separate YouTube video links will be required).
g) String and Voice applicants must use a piano accompanist for all non-solo works.
h) Each performer may only announce the selection to be performed: the complete title, opus number and composer. If the performer’s name or any other information is mentioned, their application will be disqualified.
i) Memorizing required for Pianists and Vocalists.

2. Applications must be completed and signed by the Instructors. If an Application regards an applicant under the age of 18, a parent/guardian’s signature will also be required.

3. Only fully and accurately submitted applications will be accepted; make sure you consult the Reference Chart below.

4. Previous 1st-place NYYPP winners are not eligible for the same Division, but may enter in a different Division, appropriate to their age.

5. The first 15 applicants in each Division of Ages 10-12 and 13-15 will be accepted for audition, as will be the first 10 applicants in each Division of Ages 16-18 and Voice. All other applications will be considered in order of receipt.

6. Entrance to the Final-Round Concert will be free of charge for Instructors and performers. The finalists’ guests, however, will have to purchase their tickets, at a fee of $10 per person.

NOTE for TEACHERS: While deciding on multiple compositions for audition repertoire, Instructors should keep in mind that only one piece per finalist will be selected by the Judges to be performed in the Final-Round Concert. In general, individual Instructors are responsible for the validity and accuracy of all information submitted in the Application Forms.

APPLICATION FEES

AMTL MEMBERS must pay $40.00 per entry.

NON-MEMBERS must also pay an additional fee of $25.00 separately per entry, as it is not a student expense.

Category: Lucy Boyan Balakian Award

Division: Ages 16-18

Minimum Performing Level: Above performing level of Ages 13-15

Repertoire: 4 pieces, one per category: Baroque; Classical; Romantic; 20th/21st Century.

Prizes: 1st Prize – $1,000; 2nd Prize – $500; 3rd Prize – $250.


Category: Schrade Family Award

Division: Up to Age 12

Minimum Performing Level: Clementi Sonatinas Op. 36

Repertoire: 2 contrasting pieces, from these categories: Baroque; Classical; Romantic; 20th/21st Century.

Prizes: 1st Prize – $100; Honorable Mention.


Category: Sevenars Concerts Award

Division: Ages 13-15

Minimum Performing Level: Mozart Sonatas

Repertoire: 2 contrasting pieces, from these categories: Baroque; Classical; Romantic; 20th/21st Century.

Prizes: 1st Prize – $150; Honorable Mention.


STRINGS

Category: AMTL String Awards – Junior Level

Division: Ages 10-12

Minimum Performing Level: Suzuki Bk. 4, Student Concerto/Sonata

Repertoire: 2 contrasting pieces, from these categories: Baroque; Classical; Romantic; 20th/21st Century.

Prizes: 1st Prize – $100; Honorable Mention.


Category: AMTL String Awards – Intermediate Level

Division: Ages 13-15

Minimum Performing Level: Concerto/Sonata

Repertoire: 2 contrasting pieces, from these categories: Baroque; Classical; Romantic; 20th/21st Century.

Prizes: 1st Prize – $150; Honorable Mention.


Category: AMTL String Awards – Advanced Level

Division: Ages 16-18

Minimum Performing Level: Above performing level of Ages 13-15

Repertoire: 3 contrasting pieces, one per category: Baroque; Romantic; Applicant’s choice from Classical/Contemporary repertoire.

Prizes: 1st Prize – $750; 2nd Prize – $250.


 VOICE

Category: Olly H. Kukepuu Vocal Awards

Requirement: For both divisions, vocalists’ auditions must display appropriate vocal technique and style.

Division: Ages 19-21

Repertoire: 4 contrasting pieces
(including 1 piece originally composed in English), one per category: Early Italian Song; German Lied; Contemporary; Applicant’s choice (may include musical theater repertoire, for this portion ONLY).

Prizes: 1st Prize – $500; 2nd Prize – $300.

&

Division: Through Age 18

Repertoire: 3 contrasting pieces
(including 1 piece originally composed in English), one per category: Early Italian Song; Contemporary; Applicant’s choice (may include musical theater repertoire, for this portion ONLY).

Prizes: 1st Prize – $500; 2nd Prize – $250.

Note: The frequency of audition for all Categories is annual.
