NYYPP Event Details

THE 2021 NEW YORK YOUNG PERFORMERS PRIZE (NYYPP) COMPETITION 

Due to the recent pandemic, in lieu of our live NYYPP Final-Round Concert & Awards, an online Event is planned to be presented on the AMTL website, at http://amtl.org.

Date: Sunday, April 18th, 2021, 4p.m.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Unless regarding College-Division candidates, who can apply for themselves, applications must be completed by the Instructors and submitted online or via email by Monday, April 5, 2021.

VIDEO DEADLINE: All video links referring to applications must be sent to:  nyypp20@gmail.com  by Sunday, April 11, 2021.

REGULATIONS & INSTRUCTIONS

1. Auditions will be conducted via YouTube video links. Please follow the steps and restrictions described below:

a) For each applicant, a YouTube video link must be set up and sent to: nyypp20@gmail.com 
b) Each YouTube upload must be labelled with the initials and year of the event, followed by the applicant’s initials and age. E.g., for a JOHN DOE aged 14, their video should be labelled NYYPP2021JD14.
c) Audition videos must be of good quality and shot with an efficient smartphone or digital video recorder (e.g. iPhone, iPad, Samsung Galaxy, etc.); a 1080i resolution would be most welcome.
d) Each of the video clips must be a one-angle shot showing the performer’s full body. In the case of pianists, the entire piano keyboard and foot pedals must also be shown. No multi-angle shots or other forms of amplification are allowed, and the camera must remain still throughout the entire recorded performance.
e) A full recording of each selection must be posted, without any edits or cuts. Partial recordings will be disqualified.
f) Each composition (repertoire selection) must be recorded and uploaded into a separate YouTube video (i.e., for 2 pieces, 2 separate YouTube video links will be required).
g) String and Voice applicants must use a piano accompanist for all non-solo works.
h) Each performer may only announce the selection to be performed: the complete title, opus number and composer. If the performer’s name or any other information is mentioned, their application will be disqualified.
i) Memorizing required for Pianists and Vocalists.

2. Except for candidates applying in College Divisions, applications must be completed and signed by the Instructors. If an Application regards a candidate under the age of 18, a parent/guardian’s signature will also be required.

3. Only fully and accurately submitted applications will be accepted; make sure you consult the Reference Chart below.

4. Previous 1st-place NYYPP winners are not eligible for the same Division, but may enter in a different Division, appropriate to their age.

NOTES

  • The Finalists’ repertoire will be determined according to the discretion of the Adjudicators. It may be a single piece or at least 2 works from the submitted repertoire.
  • Except for candidates who apply in College Divisions, individual Instructors are responsible for the validity and accuracy of all information submitted in the Application Forms.
  • All Application Fees are non-refundable.
  • If pandemic-related shortcomings are not allowing you/your student to pay for Application Fees, please consider applying for our Exceptional Circumstances Fee Waiver provision (see section in red font at http://amtl.org/events/nyypp/).

APPLICATION FEES

COLLEGE DIVISIONS: $50.00 per entry for ALL Applicants, Members and/or Non-Members.

ALL OTHER DIVISIONS: $40.00 per entry for AMTL Members; Non-Members must pay an additional fee of $25.00.

Category: Lucy Boyan Balakian Awards
Division: ADVANCED (Ages 16-18)
Minimum Performing Level: Mid-period Beethoven Sonatas (i.e., Op. 13, 53, 57, 81a, etc.)
Repertoire: 2 contrasting pieces, from 2 musical periods: Baroque; Classical; Romantic; 20th/21st-Century.
Prizes: 1st Prize – $750; 2nd Prize – $300.
